Nojito Recipe

Nojito

This is a great twist on the mojito—the rustic sugarcane and rum drink of old Havana given its name in the 1930s by Sloppy Joe’s bar in Key West. Here there’s no rum, but the immense flavor remains. However, in this incarnation, I make it a bit differently. Not wanting a lot of little mint pieces in my teeth, I’ve created it so that the mint flavor gets infused beforehand; I then garnish the drink with a few mint leaves for added decoration and flavor.

Ingredients

10-12 fresh small spearmint leaves

1/2 lime, juiced

7 oz sprite zero or club soda

1 tbsp sugar or Splenda

crushed ice

Instructions

In a cool tall glass, muddle the mint, sugar or splenda and lime juice. Add crushed ice and soda and stir well. Garnish with a lime wedge and a few sprigs of mint. Serve with a straw.
